Murdering more journalists in Gaza

Five journalists working for Al Jazeera were killed by Israel close to Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza City – the City that Israel plans to take full control of in order to “save the people of Gaza from Hamas” (as Netanyahu said yesterday).  Anas al-Sharif was a particularly well known journalist, aged only 28, was killed along with four of his colleagues, all of whom had done their utmost to report to the world what has been happening in Gaza.

This may have wiped out the remaining journalists working for Al Jazeera- which Israel has already banned from Israel and closed its office in Ramallah.  Of course, no foreign journalists are allowed in to report other than, very occasionally, when deeply embedded with the Israeli armed forces. Throughout the brutal 6 years of war from 1939 – 1945 a total of 54 journalists were killed: in less than two years, in a tiny strip of land, more than four times that number of Palestinian journalists have been murdered.

At the end of this article, is Anas al-Sharif’s moving Will and Last Statement; he was just 28 years old.  The four Al Jazeera journalists murdered for being in the same place as he was, are even less remembered but we are pleased, at the very least, to record their names at the top of the article.
