Palestine’s reporters are redefining journalism – despite the killing

JVL Introduction

Where is Israel’s accountability for the murder of journalists? People clearly wearing Press vests have been murdered in unprecedented numbers.  Recently there have been more claims that more of them were “working for Hamas” or in some other way associated with terrorism or with October 7th.  It seems to most of the world that Israel does not want the truth getting out; if it wants us to be less reliant on the direct messages from Palestinians in Gaza, then why are journalists from other countries not allowed in?  Why is there censorship within Israel – certainly on the TV Channels – about what is happening?

We are hugely indebted to the courageous journalists, some who came into it by accident, that may include Bisan Owda who starts most of her posts with these powerful and yet chilling words ” Hello everyone, I am Bisan from Gaza. I am still alive”: her video on Three Years of Israel’s Genocide was posted on October 7th 2026.

The legacy media in most western countries at least, has published narrative that all too often shows the Israeli perspective that fails to humanise Palestinians or to provide the historical context. While many journalists have protested, this remains the dominant approach.
