Shireen Abu Akleh: the extrajudical killing of a journalist, 11 May 2022
JVL Introduction
The word “forensic” has been misapplied in recent years in describe the so-called skills of the leader of the opposition, but forensic really is the appropriate word to apply to this remarkable reconstruction of the killing of Shireen Abu Akleh over four months ago now by Al Haq and Forensic Architecture.
It reveals conclusively that:
- Shireen Abu Akleh and her colleagues were explicitly targeted, despite being members of the Press.
- The source of the fatal gunfire was an IOF marksman in an armoured vehicle.
- Contrary to IOF statements there were no shots from Palestinian gunmen at the time.
- The IOF deliberately prevented the wounded journalist from receiving medical attention.

The Israeli State has demanded the Palestinians hand over the bullet as vital evidence. Will the Israeli State hand over the IDF soldiers in the armoured vehicle to the Palestinians and/or independent investigators as vital evidence?
The killing of this American/Palestinian journalist must be investigated by a – fully – independent authority.
Not American. Not Palestinian, and, certainly, not Israeli.
Ideally, it should be the International Criminal Court, with the full cooperation of the American, Israeli and Palestinian authorities.
