Israel chooses to forget, but we must not

JVL Introduction

Israelis seem determined to continue their decades long practice of forgetting the crimes they commit in Gaza, with frightening implications for the future, says Lee Mordechai in a recent article for Jewish Currents.

He writes of “a quiet, collective act of forgetting, which aims to make the decimation of Palestinian life in Gaza simply disappear from Israeli memory.”

It’s a process fostered by Israel’s own democratic institutions, aided and abetted by the state’s international allies.

Mordechai’s concluding paragraph is a chilling reminder of the desperate need for a strong global movement in solidarity with the Palestinian people:

With this violence firmly forgotten, Israelis will be free to return to a more comfortable, passive mode of neglect of Palestinian life. Until we are finally willing to remember the horrors we’ve already wrought, there will surely be more to come.

Israel’s Collective Amnesia

Even as Israel continues killing Gazans, its liberals are ready to forget the genocide.

  • Shocking how this brutal genocide has been swept under the carpet, with Western countries shamefully colluding. Israeli media creators should be publicly shamed, as their lack of investigative rigour disgraces all who claim to be telling truth to power.
