Health Workers in Israel’s torture camps (1)
JVL Introduction
The capture of health workers is a violation of international law but when did that stop Israel? That torture is carried out on any prisoners is another violation and yet it is not only done but supported by a majority of Israelis. The Knesset is passing bills that will make life hard to impossible for those NGOs documenting and sharing the truth.
Here there are examples of what doctors experienced. One horrifying example was that of Dr. Mohammed Abu Selmia, the director of Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza. He was detained for seven months and then released without charge. He said: but “Frankly, no matter how much I talk about what I experienced in detention, it is only a fraction of what truly happened, I am talking about clubbing, being beaten with rifle butts and being attacked by dogs. There was little to no food, no personal hygiene, no soap inside the cells, no water, no toilet, no toilet paper … I saw people who were dying there … I was beaten so badly I couldn’t use my legs or walk. No day passes without torture.”
