Double standards on Gaza – it is genocide

JVL Introduction

In this interview William Schabas,  both a leading lawyer and academic on genocide argues that there are double standards at work and that what is happening in Gaza fully meets the definition of genocide.

While international lawyers – and some politicians – may argue that we should wait until the International Court of Justice has come to its conclusion on the case brought by South Africa, he notes that “With a lot of the genocide studies, people are (now) quite open about describing what’s happening in Palestine as genocide….But it’s hard for academics, certainly in Western countries, to make this call without paying a potential price for condemning Israel’s genocide. A price in terms of career promotions, appointments, or even the threat of dismissal in some cases. So, for younger people in academia there’s a strong tendency to keep your head down.”

  • William Schabas leaves little that is left to say about genocide and the hypocrisy of the Starmers and Bidens.

In essence genocide is committed by our enemies, never our friends is a good guide. So Srebenica, 8000 dead, is a genocide according to Starmer but Gaza with maybe half a million dead, is not. The hypocrisy of our rulers is never ending.
