De-escalation has no part in US/Israel thinking

JVL Introduction

In this piece for Mondoweiss, Mitchell Plitnick, former vice president at the Foundation for Middle East Peace, examines the policy goals of Israeli and US governments and finds that their oft-stated determination to avoid escalating war is a smokescreen for something quite different.

“The idea of de-escalation is invisible in this discourse,” Plitnick writes.

“Given the eagerness with which the Biden administration seems to be pressing forward with another doomed attempt to ‘remake the Middle East,’ rationality seems like a pipe dream.”

Britain’s supine Labour government needs to take heed.

The United States and Israel set out to remake the Middle East, again

The mood in Washington today is similar to 2003 when the neocons of the Bush administration sought to remake the Middle East. This time, a joint vision shared by Israel and the Biden administration seeks to remake the region in the West’s vision.

  • As I type, reports are that US – backed Israel, has bombed an apartment block in the Syrian Capital, Damascus. Today it bombed Lebanon and Gaza. Whilst its most fanatical Zionist supporters slaver over the delusion of “victory” in the Middle East and cheer every Palestinian death, the Zionist entity and its bomb-suppliers, the United States, won’t be able to turn back the clock to October 6th 2023. Hezbollah has already reportedly killed and injured some of Israel`s “elite” troops, attempting to invade another sovereign state. The idea that Iran is the “enemy” which Israel will destroy is another delusion. Israel is like a lose canon on a battlefield: a rabid dog let lose on civilisation, biting its own people and signing its own death warrant. The Russians have bases in Syria and provide logistical support to the legitimate Syrian Government. The Yemen Houtis have held steadfast in support of the Palestinians throughout. The resistance in Iraq, the West Bank and Hamas in Gaza are battle-hardened and ready. Meanwhile, the British, the Germans, French and Italians are on the coat-tails of the US to protect their outlying suppremacist colony. There are too many potential disasters waiting to happen, if the United States sharpens the teeth of its rabbid dog. Like all colonial wars, the coloniser uses force, but history tells us that force is a sign of weakness. What we are witnessing is the end of the colonial outpost and a changing world order in the Middle East. Let the fanaticks continue their terrorism against the legitimate people of Palestine, because their time will come and the Zionist state will soon become history.
