The World has failed the Palestinians

By Leah Levane

The betrayal of the Palestinian people over many decades is palpable.  The failure is of most institutions especially the political and economic so called leaders.  It is most obvious to Gaza and the extent of the atrocities, its livestreaming and active collusion has woken many people up to the failures of the political leaders.  But it goes beyond that and the political failures go beyond the West, certainly to include Arab nations that have failed to put real pressure on the USA; the failures of both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority also cannot be ignored, nor that of the much weakened United Nations.

Why the West Backs Israel…

By Leah Levane

Inevitably, the more extreme the West’s actions – by, for example, actively aiding Israel’s genocide in Gaza – the more extreme the assumptions about the causes of that behaviour. As a result, some are falling into an easy trap laid for them by western establishments. They assume that tiny Israel controls the West and its … Continued

Israel has made itself a pariah state

By Leah Levane

Something has (finally) shifted as more mainstream politicians begin to catch up with the people who have been demonstrating indefatigably. Ursula Von der Leyen says Israel’s actions in Gaza warrant (some) sanctions;  Boycotts and other actions are becoming more widespread and, finally, some of our western political leaders are catching up with the people.

Does capitalism make backing genocide inevitable?

By Leah Levane

Capitalism runs the world and morality is rarely a factor.  Even the BRICS countries, ostensibly representing the Global South seems powerless to stop the killing, to stop pumping a genocidal regime with arms and other goods.  In this thought provoking article, the write notes that “(e)ven South Africa—the one BRICS nation to file a genocide complaint at the International Court of Justice—continues shipping coal to fuel Israel’s power grid.”

By Leah Levane

Several JVL members, including some members of the Executive Committee, took part in Defend Our Juries protest on Saturday September 6th.  Here some members write about why they decided to take part.  These are, of course, just a few voices from the c 1500 who did participate and the c 890 who were arrested, including all whose contributions we include here.

Global Jews for Palestine: Statement in support of the Flotilla

By Leah Levane

Global Jews for Palestine Statement in support of the Sumud Flotilla: Fifteen years after JVL Secretary, Glyn Secker, captained The Jewish Boat to Gaza and activists were murdered on the Mavi Marmara,  it is appalling that the siege is still in place and that such actions are needed.  We acknowledge the courage and determination of all on the flotilla and, above all, we acknowledge the courage and determination of the Palestinian people.

UK government refuses to call it genocide!

By Leah Levane

The UK government seems to know better than human rights organisations throughout the world and The Genocide Scholars Association  who all say that Israel’s “war” on Gaza is genocide. A few days after the Genocide Scholars made that clear, one of the last things David Lammy did while still Foreign Secretary was to declare that while

You can’t fight racism with racism

By Leah Levane

We are pleased to publish David Rosenberg’s seering analysis of the so called “March Against Antisemitism” organised by the so called Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA)  It is not common to see a supposedly antiracist march replete with the Union Jacks, the symbol of a brutal and intensely racist Empire and yet the CAA has no problem with that and, by the way, having weaponised antisemitism in its unrelenting attack on Jeremy Corbyn, regards Jews like us, who support rights for Palestinians, with disdain, regarding JVL as “sham Jews” (and worse) .
