Britain Owes Palestine – time to be held to account

A group of Palestinians have submitted a legal claim for compensation for the actions of Britain before and during its Mandate period that preceded the establishment of the State of Israel.  In a document exceeding 400 pages with detailed evidence, the petition asks “the UK to take responsibility for…“serial international law violations”, including war crimes committed during the British occupation of Palestine from 1917 to 1948, the consequences of which it says still reverberate today.”

Israel’s High Court says Israel “may be” starving Palestinian prisoners

Israel’s government denies that it is not providing enough food incarcerated Palestinians just as it denies that it has created a man made famine in Gaza. There have been photos on social media of Palestinians before and after incarceration who have clearly lost significant amounts of weight.  On top of evidence of torture, this lack of food, is further evidence of Israel’s appalling treatment of Palestinian prisoners, significant numbers of whom have not been charged and are held under the uncertain parameters of “administrative detention”. 

The government: no compassion for asylum seekers

The government has helped to place compassion and our legal obligations onto the back burner and so helped to enable the vile protests outside hotels.  Starmer and Cooper have said little if anything about the reasons  people come, let alone our role in supporting wars and economic problems in the countries from which people are fleeing. 

No Israel does not care about Jews, even its own.

It is not Israel’s job to protect Jews across the world whatever it claims but it might be reasonable to expect the so called Jewish State to protect its own Jewish (and non Jewish) citizens and not to actually contribute to harming Jews in other countries.  In the 1970s Israel supplied weapons to the brutal Argentinian Junta knowing that they were murdering a disproportionate number of Jews. Ben-Daniel describes Israel’s support of the Junta and argues that “The government that sold arms to the murderers of Jews yesterday will also abandon Jews today”.
