A Jewish statement published in the Scottish Herald newspaper expresses the sentiments of many Jews appalled by the weaponisation of our grief following the deadly attack on a synagogue in Manchester last Thursday.
Zack Polanski’s election as leader has already made a substantial difference. Party membership has soared by around 20,000 in recent months and it is now larger than the Lib Dems.
Polanski has a strong media presence and is rarely wrong-footed. His response to the Manchester synagogue murders was excellent: compassionate and adamant that “an attack on one of us is an attack on all of us. The only authentic response is solidarity.”
It is a significant development for a major political party to call for strong action to hold Israel accountable for its genocide in Gaza, including a call for action against its genocidal enforcers, the Israeli Defence Force.
The Green Party conference has just done just that – overwhelmingly, with strong support at all levels of the Party.

Two years of genocide the people of Gaza are left without their rights or their freedom and with their lives at risk from bombs, starvation, disease and infection from injuries. It is long past time when political action is needed; fine words while continuing normal relations with Israel, including arms sales, are worse than meaningless.
