Trump is using antisemitic tropes and dog whistles in his aim of quelling all opposition, aka scaring people into submission or silence. An obvious – but not the only – target is, once again, George Soros. The accusation is that Jews are funding the extreme left and destroying US society; now where have we heard that before?

Remarkable progress has been made in Mexico under the leadership of President Claudia Sheinbaum, who now has an 80% approval rating. Compare that with Starmer who has an astonishingly low negative 41% rating! She has focused on the needs of people, including building 1.8 million homes and standing against Israel’s genocide! Compare that with Starmer has (not) achieved and who has an astonishingly low negative 41% rating!
The UK government need not agree with these organizations’ conclusions as to whether genocide is ongoing. However, their conclusions, like the ICJ provisional measures orders, mean the government cannot legally avoid its obligation to take action when there is a serious and real risk genocide may occur. Despite protestations to the contrary, Starmer’s government likely knows a proper interpretation of the law would require a change of policy, but the government misconstrues how its duties under the Genocide Convention apply to Gaza, yet again.

These articles were written before Hamas said that they would agree with aspects of the proposals and wanted to negotiate over others. Israel made three air strikes this morning and Trump told Israel to stop bombing Gaza but he has also today (October 4th) said:
“I appreciate that Israel has temporarily stopped the bombing in order to give the Hostage release and Peace Deal a chance to be completed, Hamas must move quickly, or else all bets will be off, “I will not tolerate delay, which many think will happen, or any outcome where Gaza poses a threat again,” he continues. “Let’s get this done, FAST.” He also added “Everyone will be treated fairly!”.

The Jewish Bloc has issued this statement expressing their sorrow at the killings and their condolences for the families of the victims. They welcome the support from the local community, including many Muslim people and organisations.
