Does the International Community want to learn?
JVL Introduction
Diana Buttu – a former Palestinian peace negotiator writes of the failures of the International community that has failed to listen to Palestinians and hidden behind a “peace process” and cited Israel’s “fragile coalitions” as reasons Palestinians need to understand the difficulties for Israel in agreeing to more. This same mindset is now heralding Trump’s Plans for “peace” in Gaza that, yet again, excludes Palestinian voices and largely excludes their involvement in controlling their own future. Israel’s security concerns are always the priority so that “everyone” agrees that Hamas must disarm and disappear but no-one is saying that Israel must disarm and disappear from land that they are occupying (this is the West Bank, Golan and East Jerusalem as well as Gaza. The result is “that Palestinians live with two omnipresent forms of violence: Israeli violence directly inflicted upon our bodies, land and society, and western violence, where only our erasure prompts the world to notice us and see our humanity – but only barely.”

A ‘magic pill’ made Israeli violence invisible. We need to stop swallowing it
For years, I pressed Palestinian interests in peace talks. The response to Trump’s plan proves the international community hasn’t learned from catastrophe

BAE Systems,Lockheed Martin, Qunetiq and Chemring, all armaments manufacturers, have all booked record profit and revenue in recent years and new orders are on the way.
With 400,000 jobs created and exports worth almost £39 billion, the wars in which the U.K. is complicit, majorly Israel’s genocide in Gaza, and its war against the Russian Federation means Healeys ‘Ministry of Defence’ should be renamed the ‘Ministry of War’, like in the US. It’s sickeningly obvious that these Western governments, with the help of endless propaganda through the MSM, are relying on the pitiless slaughter of hundreds of thousands of men, women and children, to boost their pathetic economies. No wonder Starmer stubbornly refuses to utter the word, ‘genocide’, to stop arming and logistically supporting Israel, and equally, refuses to take the peace path in the case of the Ukraine. The sooner he, and his evil ilk are gone, the better.
Thank you, Diana. Your article clearly demonstrates the injustices visited on Palestinians as individuals and as a sovereign state over decades. If only the UN [or any international body] had real power it would be involved in any negotiations over the future governance of Palestine. How absurd that the so called peace plan was decided between Trump and Netanyahu with no Palestinian input whatsoever. And the world seems to have accepted this fraudulent solution and is now insisting that Hamas – the only elected government of Gaza – accepts its premises, which offer them no future autonomy, no security and no respect.
