We will continue to be in the West Bank, despite reduced impact

By Leah Levane

This is a sobering account of the diminishing impact of “protective presence” and the determination of so many to continue to show solidarity.  As recently as summer of 2024, the presence of international and Israeli peace and solidarity activists had some influence on curbing the worst of the behaviour of settlers and soldiers.

It is long past time to release Marwan Barghouti

By Leah Levane

Israel has refused to release Marwan Barghouti, a Fatah leader, incarcerated with multiple life sentences plus 30 years in 2004.  His political rivals, Hamas always place him at or close to the top of their lists of prisoners to release in exchanges

Complicity in genocide and apartheid in Gaza: Francesca Albanese’s Report

By Leah Levane

The level of complicity in the Gaza genocide is extraordinary and outlined in some detail in Francesca Albanese’s latest report to the UN Human Rights Council. We have posted before about the UK’s complicity, not least the barely explained flights over Gaza from the RAF base in Akrotiri, Cyprus. The report covers the West Bank as well as the Gaza genocide.

By Leah Levane

In this chilling and important article, Yuval Abraham outlines the argument used inside Israel to counter allegations of genocide.  The aim, they claim is a military one, to deal with Hamas (operatives), not to kill civilians. However, there are many examples of senior people (not only in government) making their genocidal intent crystal clear.

A German court of justice metes out Injustice for a Gazan journalist

By Leah Levane

Germany’s largest-selling tabloid, Bild, exploited an Alice in Wonderland (not to say Kafkaesque) legal technicality to successfully defend its smearing of the Palestinian photojournalist, Anas Zayed Fteiha, one of the few journalists still working in Gaza. Fteiha accused Bild’s publisher – the mighty Axel Springer media corporation – of violating his constitutional rights by accusing him of being a Hamas propogandist and ‘staging’ a scene at a food distribution point. This allegation was false, as shown through an investigation conducted by  Bild’s main rival, Spiegel.
