Control over water resources has always been a key element in Israel’s strategy for the region. Taking over such resources – or destroying them – to undermine the life of local communities has long been a weapon deployed across the West Bank.

In March, the UK government put out a call for submissions to an independent review “which aims to improve how schools and colleges in England deal with antisemitism and other forms of racial and religious prejudice”. The deadline for submissions has just passed.

The UN Independent Commission of Inquiry has concluded that Israel is targeting children and that this is part of genocide. Edgware United Synagogue shamefully allowed its premises to be used for the ‘Great Israeli Real Estate Event’ which was promoting the sale of properties in illegal Israeli settlements, in breach of British law. This criminal enterprise was protected by both the police and a large contingent of far-right thugs, Jewish and non-Jewish. A smaller group of protesters, including many anti-Jews gathered opposite the synagogue. Netpol’s report gathers testimonies of the violence and injuries inflicted on the protestors; the failure of the police to halt the attacks; and the arrests, not of the perpetrators but of the victims.

The Archbishop of Canterbury calls for Israel to end its occupation: at the next Church of England Synod a debate on whether to “change its investment policies in light of Israel’s actions in the Occupied Territories.” will take place. She was unequivocal about settler violence, forced displacement and more and noted that “Annexation is already taking place in all but name.”
There is nothing new in this report. We know it only too well.
But Gideon Levy is undeterred. While it is continues to happen he will continue to report it, inveigh against it. Maybe one day the world will listen?
