How Israel uses water as a weapon of war

By Richard Kuper

Control over water resources has always been a key element in Israel’s strategy for the region. Taking over such resources – or destroying them – to undermine the life of local communities has long been a weapon deployed across the West Bank.

So too in Lebanon, where Israel has had its eye on the Litani River from early Zionist days.

Lebanon is grappling with the fallout from climate change, declining rainfall…

Antisemitism in schools and colleges in England

By Richard Kuper

In March, the UK government put out a call for submissions to an independent review “which aims to improve how schools and colleges in England deal with antisemitism and other forms of racial and religious prejudice”. The deadline for submissions has just passed.

We post below the thoughtful response to this call submitted by the Jewish Socialists’ Group (JSG).

Communities, it argues, can and must learn from each other’s experiences of racism in order to strengthen and expand empathy and solidarity, rather than engaging in building a league table of suffering.

Targeting children is part of Israel’s genocide on Gaza

By Leah Levane

The UN Independent Commission of Inquiry has concluded that Israel is targeting children and that this is part of genocide. Inevitably, Israel continues to object to this calling it a “libellous sham”.  This is, frankly, an incredulous denial that is, despicably, echoed by Israel’s allies who also reject the label genocide in the wake of the clear evidence and conclusions of nearly every genocide and Holocaust scholar and every human rights organisation.

The war on Palestinian journalists

By Leah Levane

Ali Al-Samoudi was arrested and held without charge or any due process for a year in Israel’s “cemeteries for the living”. He entered weighing 120lbs and left a year later at half that weight. He is one of many journalists targeted by Israel; the c 270 killed in Gaza and c 100 incarcerated by Israel into their torture chambers.  Why are journalists targeted in this way?

Purity can be a barrier to power for the Palestine movement

By Leah Levane

What is the work needed in the solidarity movement throughout the world?  Here the writer challenges the emphasis on “purity” for many in the solidarity movement and that alliances, even with Zionists who are horrified by the actions of this government and, for example, support an arms embargo may be most important.

Police protect illegal sales in Edgware

By Mike Cushman

Edgware United Synagogue shamefully allowed its premises to be used for the ‘Great Israeli Real Estate Event’ which was promoting the sale of properties in illegal Israeli settlements, in breach of British law. This criminal enterprise was protected by both the police and a large contingent of far-right thugs, Jewish and non-Jewish. A smaller group of protesters, including many anti-Jews gathered opposite the synagogue. Netpol’s report gathers testimonies of the violence and injuries inflicted on the protestors; the failure of the police to halt the attacks; and the arrests, not of the perpetrators but of the victims.

The West’s complicity in Israel’s war crimes

By Leah Levane

A new book on western complicity: “The focus of the West’s current peace plan is de-radicalising the Palestinians. We are somehow expected to believe that it’s the impoverished, homeless and frightened Arab people who need to be detoxified, not the sovereign state that has vowed to eradicate them.”
why is is the oppressed people who have to deradicalise and not the oppressor state?

Archbishop calls for Israel to end the occupation

By Leah Levane

The Archbishop of Canterbury calls for Israel to end its occupation: at the next Church of England Synod a debate on whether to “change its investment policies in light of Israel’s actions in the Occupied Territories.”  will take place. She was unequivocal about settler violence, forced displacement and more and noted that “Annexation is already taking place in all but name.”

For the IDF, there are no innocents on the West Bank

By Richard Kuper

There is nothing new in this report. We know it only too well.

But Gideon Levy is undeterred. While it is continues to happen he will continue to report it, inveigh against it. Maybe one day the world will listen?

“While Israel was grieving for its dead and hostage (after October 7) the settlers were quick to discern a golden opportunity. With their sharp senses they realized that this was the moment they had been praying for all those years: a big war motivated by a desire for vengeance, under the cover of which one may do anything.”

And they are doing anything and everything…
