Targeting children is part of Israel’s genocide on Gaza

JVL Introduction

The UN Independent Commission of Inquiry has reported that the Israel is clearly targeting children with c 30% of those killed being under 18. Many more have been seriously wounded with Gaza having (pro rata) the highest number of child amputees in the world. Targeting children is part of making it difficult for Palestinians to exist.

We must also add the emotional and mental health consequences of all that Israel has inflicted on Gaza and its children since October 7th 2023 to the physical privations that will have stunted growth and brain development for many. In this so called ceasefire, children continue to be killed and many continue to be hungry, lack medical support that they need, have no access to education and are sleeping in sweltering tents, where disease is spreading.  This is also part of genocide as contained in the Convention of December 1948.

In June 2024, Gideon Levy wrote in visceral fury at the dreadful reality for children in Gaza and with near disbelief that Israel objects to being on the UN list of Countries That Harm Children.  By then, nine months in, over 15,000 children had been killed and 3,000 had “lost” at least one limb, 17,000 had “lost” at least one of their parents.

Inevitably, Israel continues to object to the label of genocide and the Israeli mission in Geneva said Israel rejected the commission’s “libellous sham”.  If it was an incredulous denial in June 2024 how much more so two years on and how despicable that allies of Israel continue to reject the label genocide in the wake of the clear evidence and conclusions of nearly every genocide and Holocaust scholar and every human rights organisation.

  • Eyal Weizmann is the founder and chair of Firensic Architecture at Goldsmiths College, London. The interview with Weizmann conducted by 972 (team Palestinian and Jewish journalists) is harrowing but factual, both nowhere more so than in his recounting of deliberate targeting of children being carried out by Israel

And the Uk government under Keir Starmer knowingly supported this genocidal act by Israel.
When will the majority who see and hear this be heard without a shrug of the shoulder and being labelled antisemitic?

  • The reality is that the UK’s links with Israel are much closer and deeper than even those cof us who have been watching for years had suspected. The UK is DIRECTLY complicit which is why they are now censoring, debanking and prosecuting those who expose what’s going on. They will do it on the basis of ‘national security’. Look at the new legislation they are trying to get through – just for disclosing information from an unacceptable source can get you charged with terrorism and a 14 year prison sentence.

  • It is an odious evil that has nothing to do with true Judaism. These are people afflicting suffering because they can.
Many Europe governments historically have given them a green pass to do this. .
Condemning actions yet giving them the means to kill indigenous people is the reason why activists take direct actions, peace protests etc.
There are people with power who wield it with vanity and misdeeds not realising that one day the seeds they have sown they will reap.
Mosad Abu Toha said of the children ‘they are decades younger than the war. A few years older than the bombs’.

‘In Lidda, in Ramla, in the Galilee,
    we shall remain
like a wall upon your chest,
    and in your throat
    like a shrad of glass,
    a cactus thron,
    and in your eyes
    a sandstorm.
    We shall remain
    a wall upon your chest,
    clean dishes in your restaurants,
    serve drinks in your bars,
sweep the floors of your kitchens
to snatch a bite for our children
    from your blue fangs.
    Here we shall stay,
    sing our songs,
    take to the angry streets,
    fill prisons with dignity.
In Lidda, in Ramla, in the galilee,
    we shall remain,
guard the shade of the fig
    and olive trees,
ferment rebellion in our children’ Tawfiq Zayyad (Here we will stay)

  • I feel it is very important for people who have long understood the nature of this extreme violence to reach out to those only becoming aware of it now. The mask has dropped and people need coping mechanisms to deal with the horror of it. Anti Zionist Jews have their work cut out for them. We are already seeing the American Christian right retreating into their own competing supremacism, and much of it is very ugly. Jews are being moved from one stupid list to another. Some of the atrocities we hear about are so horrible – when we consider there are people walking around the UK who have participated – on multiple levels – the possibility of revenge attacks – in actual, horrific kind – is only held at bay with the implied threat of collective punishment. People may be so enraged with the depravity they may want to give people they may rightly or wrongly see as guilty a taste of their own medicine even if it’s the last thing they do. I honestly think what is holding them back is the horror of what may happen to their families and communities in the current fascist atmosphere. This mafia adjacent supremacist cult needs to be exposed for what it is – and people need to brought back from the brink of ferocious rage by those who have long understood what is taking place and how best to deal with it. The world makes sense when the right people speak up.
