Zionism’s global consequences
JVL Introduction
Read here a nuanced look from an African anti-colonial perspective at the ways in which “Zionism’s long-standing fusion of Jewish identity with a sovereign state has global consequences that do not stop at Israel’s borders.”
Africa Is A Country editor William Shoki examines the civilizational panic sweeping across the Western world that may be undermining Israel’s utility to the West, straining “the ideological frame that once justified unconditional support.”
Far right admiration for Israel as a model ethno-state has been twinned with conspiracy theories about globalists and hidden elites, as part of a perfectly coherent world view in which “Jews are tolerated so long as they serve civilizational power, and resented when they do not.”
Shoki writes: “Serious opposition to Zionism and to the West’s enabling of Israel’s violence has to refuse conspiratorial explanation entirely. Otherwise, a critique of empire collapses into the very myths that have historically made Jews targets.”

Antisemitism and the age of civilizational panic

Thank you William Shoki. A really useful and enlightening analysis.
Sadly Israel, in its haste to explain away pro-Palestinian protest as antisemitic, has created a climate of paranoia in which acts of terrorism – Charlie Kirk’s assassination, the Bondi Beach massacre – are instantly suspected of being false flag atrocities. No evidence has been produced to justify these suspicions, but thanks to the temper of the times no evidence is needed – a vast number of people will believe that these are false flag events simply because they have become convinced that Israel is guilty of every kind of double-dealing imaginable. All this of course only serves to add to the sense that further and even more terrible acts of violence are on the way, up to and including a third world war.
OK, so most of the people who live in, and support Israel, are Jews. The Bondi Beach murders were terrible and antisemitic no doubt, but how many Synagogues, as well as grieving for this incident, have also grieved for the thousands of innocent Palestinians killed by Israel, in the Genocide, in their name? How many have published statements or interviews saying to the world that Israel was not killing in their name? Islamophobia is just as sickening to me. If the Israelis believe in God then how come they don’t know one of the ten commandments is “Do not kill”?
The majority of the people in 48 Israel are Jews but between the river and the sea there are roughly equal numbers of Israeli Jews and Palestinians
The vast majority of people who support Israel are not Jews and many, like Orban and many Christiaan Zionists combine love of Israel with hatred of Jews – go figure.
