What does Israel fear from Palestine?

JVL Introduction

Alex Preston’s review of Raja Shehadeh’s most recent book is rather heartbreaking;  a man who has written in thoughtful, generous as well as nuanced ways about Palestine may now be losing hope in the light – or the dark – the terrible pulverisation of Gaza and its people for more than eight months.

“There’s a marked divide between the first and second parts. The first section is recognisably a work by Shehadeh. He begins by asking a question: why was it that, in the wake of the Oslo accords of 1993 and 1995, the world didn’t put its weight behind peace in the region the way it had sought to bring an end to apartheid in South Africa?,,,(whereas) The second part of the book feels like the work of a different author, one finally worn down by the brutality of the Israeli response over the past eight months.”

What Does Israel Fear from Palestine? by Raja Shehadeh review – in pursuit of peace

  • The last 8 months has just been an escalation of the devastation wrought on Palestinians by Israel. Israel has ALWAYS had just ONE Agenda, to wipe Palestine off the Map and for Israel to expand and rewrite History. As someone with Palestinian friends in UK , US & occupied Palestine I’ve seen the TRUTH for DECADES. I’ve seen the “ceasefires” where UK media carry on ignoring the fact that Israel continued to kill Palestinians and expand their territory with impunity. Israel has NEVER had ANY intention of a TWO State solution.
