The end of liberal Zionism – Mairav Zonszein

JVL Introduction

Mairav Zonszein writes: “The biggest loser of the second Israeli election of 2019 is liberal Zionism. The idea that Israel can be a Jewish and democratic state with internationally recognized borders, which both acknowledges its national Palestinian minority and reaches an agreement to establish a Palestinian state, has absorbed a fatal blow. Israelis have consistently voted against this idea; it is now impossible to see how it could ever be realized.”

  • Talk of so-called ‘liberal’ zionism is irrational.
It is the same as talking about ‘liberal’ racism.
For zionism is clearly a racist supremacist doctrine.
From Herzl onwards, advocates of zionism have always expected “their” state to be exclusive to just one group of people.
The primary purpose of the kibbutses and Histadrut was to promote a racist supremacist philosophy, uncomfortable as that may make older people feel.
They – like many others – were taken in by the apparent ‘liberalism’ of so-called Labour Zionism. That is why enthusaists of ethnic cleansing, such as ben Gurion, were able to gain significant political, diplomatic and military support from the Soviet Union and its satellits at the same time as they were co-existing with similar racist supremacists in apartheid South Africa.
People in Britain have to accept a historic responsibility for the Balfour Declaration – motivated by the clear antisemitism of Balfour and others.
Now, people everywhere around the world have to accept that they were misled by zionists as to their true beliefs and goals, i.e. racism.
Only when we all understand this will there be scope for achieving a full and fair settlement of the aspirations of Jewish and Palestinian people.
