“Standing Together” and the anti-war left in Israel

JVL Introduction

We have posted recently about Standing Together’s interventions  to ensure that aid trucks get through to Gaza.

In this interview with Uri Weltmann, its national field organiser, we get an overview of its thinking.

As a Jewish-Arab social movement that organises against racism and occupation, and for equality and social justice, it has been intervening in the protests calling for the return of the hostages, popularising the chant Kulam Tmurat Kulam: “[Release] all of them, in exchange for all of them”, a call to release the thousands of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli gaols in exchange for the Israeli hostages taken by Hamas.

It stresses that their safe return must be accompanied by an end to the war and the further killing of innocent civilians in Gaza.

Weitmann says it is working within Israeli society, with all its complexities and contradictions, to “build a new majority within our society” that can advance towards peace, equality, and social and climate justice.
