The truth about October 7: Richard Sanders in discussion with Peter Oborne

JVL Introduction

It took Richard Sanders and his team almost four months to make the film “OCTOBER 7th” with Al Jazeera’s Investigation Unit. It was released on 20th March.

Al Jazeera said on its release that it “reveals widespread human rights abuses by Hamas fighters and others who followed them through the fence from Gaza into Israel.”

But it also found that “many of the worst stories that came out in the days following the attack were false…”

Sanders explained in the film how the failure of western media outlets in reporting these claims has been used by Israel to justify its war on Gaza.

Here, in an in-depth interview with Peter Oborne, is a revealing follow-up and elaboration of the themes in the film.

  • I thought the interview was griiping and considerably more interesting than the film! It explained Sanders’ methodology and made one wonder why mainstream journalists, out of pure journalistic curiosity and self-respect for the investigative side of their profession, hadn’t gone down any of the very obvious paths he explored. He – and Oborne – also manage to be very calm, almost understated, which doubles the impact of what they are both saying. The interview should be shared as widely as possible as a corrective to so much of today’s shoddy journalism.
