Brothers in grief – working for peace
JVL Introduction
Victoria Derbyshire conducts a very moving interview with Israeli Rami Elhanan and Palestinian Bassem Aramin on the BBC (Sunday with Laura Kuenssbeg 29.10.23). Each had a daughter who was killed, one by a Palestinian suicide bomber, the other by an Israeli soldier.
Both were active in Combatants for Peace as well as the Parents Circle which is referenced in this short, powerful interview that keeps alive the possibility of hope.
Through their shared grief they have not only become friends but a solid stand for peace and coexistence rather than revenge and ongoing bitterness.
Wherever they can they spready their messages: “we care about human beings”, “your enemy is exactly like you” and that “it will not stop unless we talk”.

Thank you JVL for posting this moving heart warming interview.
Colum McCann’s book Apeirogon is about the relationship between these two men and how they create dialogue between bereaved Palestinian and Jewish parents and between others across the divide. It’s like a novel based on the story.
I’m very moved by your struggle for justice
