Some change but legacy media is still failing on Gaza

The tide is turning, even in the media, but few editors or journalists are acknowledging that they got it wrong. For those who listened, reported on and took seriously the statements made by Israeli political and military leaders, the genocidal intent was front and centre of their reporting. For too many others it was a matter of contention to be addressed, if at all, after reminding us all of Israel’s “right to self defence”.
Owen Jones also calls the legacy media out for their culpability in the genocide in Gaza, in an excoriating speech which you can listen to here [from 0’53” until 4’25]. He delivered this speech on receiving the People’s Choice Amnesty International Media Award.
Here, among many other important points. Des Freedman argues that some of the coverage has been more concerned with the damage to Israel’s reputation than the terrible experiences of the people in Gaza.

The UK media discover Israel is off the leash
Britain’s national press finally realise that Israel might be a problem but still fail to recognise their own role in legitimising atrocities in Gaza.

I think both Western governments and the MSM have been essentially performative in their ‘concern’ about Israel – they’ve avoided using words that might be used against Israel legally and calling for direct action that would affect Israel. Israel, understanding this, has continued with their genocide without batting an eyelid. Nothing has altered, except superficially …. as more and more deaths are tallied both the media and the government(s) do everything in their power(s) to make our opposition to their complicity irrelevant …..
