Shattering testimony from Gaza surgeon ignored by media and politicians

JVL Introduction

The British parliament’s International Development Committee last week heard harrowing testimony from Professor Nizam Mamode, a retired NHS surgeon who recently returned from working at Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza.

Committee chair Sarah Champion MP acknowledged the devastating character of his experience and pledged to ensure that legislators heard and acted upon it. It’s all available to view and read, as for example in the clip from PoliticsJoe below. But legislators have not acted, nor has mainstream media given Prof Mamode’s testimony anything like the coverage it deserves.

MediaLens studied media output on the subject and found no significant broadcast coverage on BBC News, Sky News or ITV, “Nor were there any editorials or significant coverage in major news reports in UK national newspapers”.

As they say in the article we are grateful to reproduce below:

Imagine the surgeon had had to operate in desperate conditions on young children who had been lying injured after a Russian bombing attack and who were then ‘picked off’ by Russian drones. The atrocity claims would be headline news all across Western media.

But this is Palestine and the aggressor is Western ally Israel.

  • The establishment mass media purposely distorts the narrative of continual Israeli genocide of the indigenous people whose land it is taking.

This and the other examples of mass media manipulation demonstrate how we do not ourselves live within a free society of genuine democratic choice.

  • Is it possible for someone/body to collate the experiences from all the medical personnel from the NHS that have worked in Gaza, and this published widely, so it can’t be ignored. Could this information be forwarded to the ICC?
