Raffi Berg: In his own words

JVL Introduction

Martin Asser, a senior broadcast journalist, spent eight years on the BBC’s Middle East online desk (2001-9) working with the man who is now BBC Digital Middle East editor, Raffi Berg. Berg is a proud, ardent Zionist. He is currently suing journalist Owen Jones over a piece Jones wrote for Drop Site News in December 2024 about an alleged lack of fairness and impartiality in Israel-Palestine coverage.

In the article posted below, Asser does not mince his words:

“As you will see, Raffi’s writing paraded a succession of omissions, inaccuracies, distortions and solipsisms on the BBC’s web pages. That he rose to a key editorial position adjudicating Israeli-Palestinian content despite this canon of work – or because of it, perhaps – tells you everything you need to know about the corporation’s supposed impartiality.”

Asser has produced a damning analysis of Berg’s work. He reveals a pervasive disdain within the BBC for any narrative other than one that favours Israel. It does not augur well for Berg’s case against Jones.
