In Gaza We Cannot Plan for Tomorrow
JVL Introduction
This Al Jazeera article gives one family’s experience of that terrible Tuesday morning when Israel ended even the semblance of the ceasefire with unimaginable brutality. These memories help us to do that all important trying to imagine what it is like for people in Gaza as the bombs start up again, that faint glimmer of hope has been cruelly destroyed. Robert Cohen posted this on his Facebook page: “Is this the first time a country has returned to war because its opponents refused to break a ceasefire agreement? It tells us that the Israeli government is not interested in engaging politically or diplomatically even if that risks the lives of more hostages. We are back to the genocidal calculus which allows for hundreds of civilian to be slaughtered in order to ‘target’ a handful of militants who will be replaced within days.”
And this is a direct message from a multiply displaced man, aged 34, trying to live on the rubble of their house in Khan Yunis, pushed out again, struggling to keep his family together – and alive.
“I am very sad and I feel very scared, the situation is very catastrophic here, the Israeli raids are terrifyingly frightening, more than 450 martyrs, most of them children, the destruction is extensive, the bodies are found in the streets in a frightening way, I cannot describe the scene here, it is very shocking and very horrific, where is the world, where is humanity, we are dying The situation is getting worse, there is great suffering, especially with the increase in famine and displacement
We are in a very catastrophic situation, forced displacement under bombs, heavy rains and cold weather. We do not know where to go. Danger is everywhere. I am with my family, but we are lost.”
