Harvard is dangerously conflating antizionism and antisemitism

JVL Introduction

The writer is a Jewish Israeli professor whose work was referred to in the Harvard Report into antisemitism on campus.  While we acknowledge Harvard being one of the few Universities to stand up to Trump’s threats to cut funding for refusing to conform to his edicts (see, eg here), it seems nonetheless to be intent on conflating Judaism with Israel and antizionism with antisemitism. The University had conducted an investigation into antisemitism and found the course run by this professor to be “not legitimate scholarship nor responsible pedagogy; it was, essentially, simply antisemitic ideological indoctrination.”

The article outlines why this is an unfounded allegation as well as outlining the course content and purpose and students’ reactions.

There are similar “investigations” happening in the UK too, notably at Goldsmiths where the Inquiry has been running since Autumn 2023 but in March this year six organistions withdrew from engagement for several reasons, including the marginalisation of antisemitism.

I’m an Israeli professor. Why is my work in Harvard’s antisemitism report?

Harvard is conflating Jewish identity with political loyalty to Israel. That’s a dangerous mistake

  • The article doesn’t mention whether or not Prof Omar was sacked by Harvard. Her program was closed down because of budgetary restraints and external pressure….Trump cuts plus pressure from Harvard

  • Horrific account. It is surely antisemitic to say that all Jews – unlike everyone else – can only legitimately hold the same single opinion.

  • Should Harvard be reminded that not all Jews are Zionists, while the vast majority of Zionists are CHRISTIAN, including Evangelicals.?
