Loewenstein considers that a Trump Presidency in the White House will make things even worse than the horrors faced by Palestinians, especially in Gaza, already. This piece from his Substack includes the text of a piece from +972 magazine with more information about the ethnic cleansing already happening in northern Gaza.
For Loewenstein “With Donald Trump soon to return to the White House, the preferred Israeli option, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu feels emboldened to realise his long-held vision of a completely subjugated Palestinian people.”

While still enjoying global impunity, Israel continues to decimate Gaza in a unprecedented way.

The similarities between Trump and Netanyahu are arresting (sorry, no pun intended). Both seek to attain/stay in office to avoid criminal charges. Both exploit the pleasure some people get in vicarious cruelty, and in indulging their hatred and self-righteousness, while seeing – or imagining – the suffering of others. Both are basically second or third rate people, who have one super power: the ability to intuit what will appeal to the basest instincts of their people.
It is cliched to cite Orwell’s 1984 and the ‘two minutes’ hate’, but it is appropriate: except that two minutes are now extended to an entire news cycle.

I may be proved wrong, but I presently anticipate little real change from the disingenuous Democrats and odious Trump. There is minimal difference between our English Conservatives and our odious ‘Labour’ government.
