Mazel Tov to Michael Rosen on winning the PEN Pinter Award

JVL Introduction

It is with some delight that we publicly congratulate Michael Rosen on being awarded this important and prestigious prize  for what judges called a “fearless” body of work that provides a “lesson in humanity.”  And this is well deserved, from his wonderful children’s books, his courageous writing about the death of his son, his homage to the NHS, without which he would almost certainly have died from COVID and we particularly note one of his most recent books: The Missing: The True Story of My Family in World War II (available from all good bookshops and online retailers) where he chronicles what happened to members of his family who lived in France under the brutal Nazi Occupation.

Michael has been vilified by right wingers for being a left wing Jew (see eg here) who has supported the rights of Palestinians and Jeremy Corbyn (although was never a Labour Party member).  The win was for a “fearless” body of work, which is a fine accolade. We not only congratulate Michael but trust that this is one in the eye for the naysayers!
