AIPAC’s Bet Against Democracy
JVL Introduction
Aipac, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, describes itself as “a bipartisan American organization that advocates for a strong US-Israel relationship”.
Aipac has always described America’s bond with Israel as rooted in shared “democratic values”.
No longer.
In order to preserve American support for Israel Aipac has just endorsed 37 politicians who tried to overturn a democratic election by refusing to endorse Joe Biden as President.
In his analysis here, Peter Beinart concludes that Aipac is fighting for a “US-Israel alliance built on the shared authoritarian values of ethno-religious supremacy and inequality under the law. It’s what the rest of us must fight against.”
