Maccabi Tel Aviv lies collapse

Owen Jones is on fire in this exposure of the shenanigans behind the Maccabi furore and in placing this story in a wider context.

In a brilliant video presentation he dismantles the government’s case – and lies – in its campaign to override the decision taken on security grounds to ban Maccabi’s supporters from attending the game against Aston Villa on 6 November, drawing heavily on the leaked police intelligence which underpinned the decision.

A well as exposing it, he scrutinises other self-aggrandising politicians who jumped on the bandwagon, like John Mann and Tim Farron, as well as mainstream media’s generally biased and shabby reporting of the story.

Channel 4 reports Israel’s extreme pre IDF religious training

Channel 4 News (UK) has produced a chilling report about Bnei David, a training centre based in an illegal Israeli settlement devoted to instilling extreme religious teaching upon young potential IDF fighters.  The report lacks clarity about the illegality of settlements under international law, but nonetheless makes vital reading, and watching. Many of those who spend time learning from Bnei David have gone on to fight in Gaza or become part of the military occupation of the West Bank.

A flotilla member on internationalism and more

An fascinating personal and political interview with one of the flotilla participants who notes, eg “There are ultimately no shortcuts, and that’s the bad news. We do have to do the work of rebuilding a lot of these social institutions that have crumbled over the past half-century. This collection is sobering, situating the Accords in a post October 7 world, tracing how earlier models of normalization—with Egypt in 1979 and Jordan in 1994—have evolved into today’s multilayered partnerships.
