Why Ilan Pappe’s new book on the Israel lobby is a must-read

In this article Peter Oborne discusses Ilan Pappé’s new book “Lobbying for Zionism on Both Sides of the Atlantic”.
Pappé traces the story of Zionism back to Christian evangelicals two hundred ago and shows the power of the Israel lobby today in the United States, the UK, France and elsewhere.
His comments on Corbyn are interesting in that Corbyn’s views on Palestine were mainstream –virtually identical to those expressed by most British diplomats and senior politicians ever since 1967, in supporting a two-state solution and recognising the Palestinian Authority.
Why the bitter hostility? Because, says Pappé, they “suspected, correctly, that he sincerely believed in a just two-state solution and wouldn’t swallow Israel’s excuses for obstructing it.”

Who’d have thought it? JC wasn’t a wild eyed marxoid anti-Semite after all. He was just Uncle Jeremy who naively thought the British state was seriously supporting the two state solution. Obviously someone as naive and straight talking is totally unfit to be PM compared to a fork tongued snake in a suit.
I had the honour of being invited and attending Pappe’s book launch. He is an amazing speaker, precise and clear and very coherent. A brave man with exemplary ethics and an upholder of justice . We are honoured to have such an excellent historian and academic in our midst.
