Trump taking us into catastrophic times

JVL Introduction

Trump’s “intervention” in Venezuela, threats to Greenland, Cuba, Mexico and more require urgent responses from all progressive voices and activists.  Our governments are not going to act, certainly not without huge pressure from below.  Trump is not hiding his reasons or his wider “ambitions”,  he is acting in the interests of large US corporations. The action ordered by Trump is a clear threat to any government that wants to protect its own resources from foreign corporations and governments, as is happening under Traore in Burkina Faso and, frankly, should be happening in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Along with the push to control as much oil and rare minerals as possible is the push for a war economy; “(t)he head of the French military says France must be prepared to sacrifice its children. Echoed in Starmer’s Britain. First steps to conscription in Merz’s Germany. Reaction is pulsing out from Trump’s US.”

This is urgent and we cannot rely on the Starmers and Macrons, let alone the Melonis and Orbans of this world.

The assault on Venezuela exposes a US strategy no longer cloaked in ‘humanitarian’ rhetoric but rooted in oil, force and fascistic alliances. This is a dangerous project that demands immediate resistance

Clingendael – the Netherlands Institute of International Relations – claims it (independently) contributes to a secure, sustainable and just world, but sees fit to investigate the willingness for young Dutch persons to die for there country. And claims it is rising. Adding to war thinking.
