ICE out of Minnesota: this is what it takes and it matters

This is how you do it: the people of Minneapolis are inspiring people throughout the world who believe in equality, decent treatment and more. People are terrified but they are out on the streets anyway. This article makes comparisons with the Arab Spring, leaderless and growing.  But like the huge increase in solidarity for Palestine, it built on what had gone before, on planning and perseverance and also the training that is now being passed on to the newer activists.

It is tough work but vital and in the UK, with the likes of Reform calling for a local version of ICE and a so called Labour government pandering to the loud calls to restrict immigration, something like this is coming here and, indeed, there have been many years of immigration raids as well as the whole “stop the boats” campaigns that blame those seeking asylum in the absence of any safe routes.

We need to be learning and preparing as well as offering our solidarity to those in the United States who are taking huge risks and often in sub zero temperatures to take a stand against ICE and also to provide practical support to their terrified neighbours.
