The West’s complicity in Israel’s war crimes

Israel continues to ignore and violate international law, much of which was created in direct response to the Nazi Holocaust and its occupation of much of Europe. It has been doing this since its inception as a state and it has done so with remarkable impunity.
In a time of genocide, it is even more vital that Western complicity is called out. Even as world public opinion swings ever more firmly in support of Palestinians and against Israel, even as (some) political leaders realise that this does need to stop, the complicity continues. We all want peace they say – but there is little if any reference to justice. As Fintan Drury stresses here “The focus of the West’s current peace plan is de-radicalising the Palestinians. We are somehow expected to believe that it’s the impoverished, homeless and frightened Arab people who need to be detoxified, not the sovereign state that has vowed to eradicate them.”

How the West sponsored the destruction of Palestine

‘Existential threat’ to Israel: the faux alibi claimed which ‘legitimises’ the real existential threat to Palestinians being made manifest each and every day. Israel is the only country capable of carrying out any such act in the Middle East. It’s a claim made by Margaret Hodge, the BoD, the then 3 Jewish newspapers in the UK re Corbyn’s LP leadership and the British Jewish community. Total testicles. As with Israel’s actions over 70 years these claims look like achieving their aim and were penalty-free.
I was recently invited to sign a petition regarding what the policies of a future Labour government ought to be. The demands were logical and reasonable, but there was one which was noticeably lacking. I responded with this:
‘Thanks for giving me the chance to sign this petition, but I am loth to do so while a seventh and absolutely vital demand had not been included in its terms, and that is the call for the UK to disengage itself from all economic, political and military ties with Israel so long as it continues its genocide against the people of Palestine and of Lebanon. This is not an attack on the Jewish people whom Israel falsely claims to represent. I am one of the increasingly large number of Jews worldwide and in Israel who do not wish to be associated with Israel’s fascist and supremacist extremism and who are doing everything they can to fight it. For many reasons, the UK bears a huge responsibility for what is happening in the Middle East, and it is well past time that it had a government that took heed of popular opinion, refused to accept the sponsorship offered by Israel’s lobbyists, and stood up for what is right. If we do not protest, the blood is on our hands.

Perhaps ‘sponsorship offered’ is too weak a phrase given the massive degree of moral blackmail and outright bribery involved, but there it is.
