Starmer and other Labour grandees are trying to be more racist than the Tories

JVL Introduction

We are still “hopping mad” (see yesterday’s Starmer files post).  Dave Levy, writing in Labour Hub outlines the dismay and exasperation so many of us feel at Labour’s increasing turn towards racist policies.   He reminds the Party of progressive motions passed at Labour Party conferences but notes that at the 2022 conference there was no mention, let alone criticism of the hostile environment and, indeed, that the commitment to end the Rwanda scheme is based on costs (although Yvette Cooper does also mention that it is unethical).  So Labour would save money and use it to fund ….. a new Anglo-French police unit to crack down on gangs exploiting the Calais refugees.

And the Party was called a racist Party under Corbyn?

  • I fully agree with all you say. And would add, of course, the unyielding support of the Israeli apartheid state. I left the Labour Party as soon as Starmer revealed his true colours, and will not return or vote for them while he and his ilk remain in charge.

  • In 1968, when the Labour government were persecuting the Kenyan Asians, Callaghan and his PPS Shirley Williams visited Nuffield College Oxford ( a paradise for centrist politicians). Callaghan was denounced to his face by larger ‘Revolutionary socialists’; I rebuked Williams – all she could do was literally wring her hands and complain about “our supporters – they are dreadful – it’s all dreadful”

  • “Labour needs to offer hope and needs a movement to sustain it through the inevitable pushbacks that will occur. “……………I take exception to the use of the word “hope” ……………..What we need is a new Party, the LP is dead to many Socialists, we need a hard headed Party that has policies as drawn up by Jeremy Corbyn et al.

  • Starmer and his far right, self serving racist cronies have heaped deep shame and disgrace not only on the Parliamentary labour party, but the labour movement as a whole….Starmer and his racist cronies cannot be booted out of the labour party soon enough!

  • What is happening in the Labour Party is a long way from the founding principles of Keir Hardy who differentiated Labour decisively from Tories by standing up for and showing compassion for those persecuted and in need, suffering injustice anywhere in the world, based on his recognition that they are fellow human beings. He didn’t need guidance from the United Nations and Human Rights Law.
