Israel – what is threatened is its humanity not its existence

JVL Introduction

For Israel and its unquestioning (and uncritical) supporters, Palestinians can only be terrorists (or potential terrorists) as the writer outlines: “Should he turn to the courts, he will be accused of legalistic terrorism. Should he talk to foreign potentates – political terrorism. Speak in the UN? Diplomatic terrorism. Plant a tree? Agricultural terrorism. Complain on Twitter? Incitement to terrorism. Protest out loud? Acoustic terrorism. Pray to his God? Jihadi terrorism. Walk down the street? Orthopedic terrorism, and so on, until he gives up on his malign notions and goes back to being a terrorist with a gun and a bomb, just the way we like them.”.

This furious piece is an important read.

  • But still the automatic condemnation of Hamas as a terrorist organisation (by someone living in a place whose government habitually uses terror tactics) and a suggestion – which will surprise many Palestinians – that the PA is “fighting for their freedom”.

For a view on Hamas from someone whose words might surely be worth listening to see the article the Times refused to print here:

I actually disagree with much of it, but the whole framing of the assessment of Hamas is so different from the monoculture we find now.

To assess the PA’s fighting capacity consider that when the Al Jazeera office was closed recently in Ramallah, the Israeli troops just walked in at 4 am, confiscated the equipment and ordered the staff out – all under the nose of the PA, the humiliation of whom was part of the intention, one presumes.
