The War on Ukraine exposes western racism

JVL Introduction

This short video (under 10 minutes) with Peter Oborne, published by Double Down News, summarises just some of the racism in how the west is treating the war in Ukraine compared, for example, with the war in Yemen, the ongoing occupation and siege of Palestine and incarceration of Muslim men in Guantanamo Bay. These issues have been almost absent from our screens. Oborne highlights the West’s positive relationship with Saudi Arabia and notes that such treatment is not a new phenomenon. We must also note the difference in treatment of Ukrainian refugees who are – finally and rightly – being made welcome in the UK,  being given the immediate right to work which is denied to other categories of refugee.

How the War in Ukraine EXPOSES Western Racism

“War is ok, something you can sing & dance about when it happens in Muslim countries, but deadly serious when it happens in Europe”

  • Yes, but then again, it would have been an entirely different matter if it had been us – the West – or an ally that had invaded Ukraine for some reason or another.

  • So true and so reprehensible. Palestine is another example of rabid racism, both of Israelis and the white West.

  • I love reading and watching Peter’s pieces on Islamophobia, Yemen, Palestine, the Israeli Lobby, anti-corruption, his championing of democracy, the NHS/PFI, exposures of Borish Johnson etc, but find it astonishing he still clings to old fashioned Toryism. Holding up Thatcher as a model for Liz Truss is a little too much for me. Thatcher had her own atrocities – her attacks on trade unionism, her brutality against the miners, the Belgrano, and the 1981 Hunger Strikers, support for Pinochet, privatisation and the theft of the poor’s housing, plus much, much more. Come on Peter, really?
