Brand Israel is tainted as boycotts bite
JVL Introduction
People’s disgust at the genocide of Gaza has led to a huge increase in those boycotting Israeli produce. This is having a deep economic impact, especially on Israeli farmers. Those of us who support the peaceful policy of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) will welcome this outcome while remaining shocked that Israel is still not subject to government level divestment and sanctions.
We note that, according to this article, many Israelis affected by the boycott are not learning the lessons and say that they “would rather go broke than sell to Gazans”
The boycotts mean, for example, leaving produce to rot on the trees or on the ground and to halving the number of fruit trees because they cannot sell the produce, certainly not when there are alternatives and there nearly always are.
We will continue to put pressure on our governments to take the action they can to be in line with the wishes of the majority of their citizens as well as keeping up and deepening the consumer boycott.

Israeli agricultural exports face looming ‘collapse’ as world rejects products over Gaza genocide
Israeli farmers warn the country’s agricultural export industry is facing a looming “collapse” due to international opposition to the Gaza genocide. Recent reports show the impact of boycotting Israel, and why the Israeli ‘brand’ may never recover.

I fell sorry for the Israeli farmers but did they expect the world to support their genocide? Now they need to do something about their own government. It’s good to see that the BDS campaign is working so well internationally, but when is Starmers government going to pull its finger out and join in?.
I hope this is right and the boycott is deepening, but as recently as last Ramadan 2025 the ONLY dates on sale in Waitrose (and more predictably M&S) were from Israel. Is farm produce even an important export for Israel any more, isn’t it mainly war-tech / new weapons /surveillance etc?
Let them all go bust, they richly deserve it, there treatment of the Palestinian people is beyond words, no produce from Israel or the occupied territory will ever pass my door, this is the same for all my neighbours rot ii hell with your fruit
They don’t get it, do they? They are utterly incapable of seeing the situation from anyone else’s point of view except their own. It seems like they don’t care what the world thinks of them – just like Trump. Truly, they deserve each other. But the world does not deserve them.
The Grapes of Wrath
The comment ‘I’m done with them, ‘ would suggest that there are Israelis who somehow manage to blame the Palestinians for Israel’s economic woes. This complete inability to accept any responsibility for the consequences of their own willing actions is a result of living in a society which teaches its members to believe that projection and deflection are normal and ordinary ways to deal with problems.
