Biden firmly rejects BDS – no surprise and no justice

JVL Introduction

The disappointing but unsurprising statement by Biden and Lapid includes the statement that: “…..The United States is proud to stand with the Jewish and democratic State of Israel, and with its people, whose uncommon courage, resilience, and spirit of innovation are an inspiration to so many worldwide.”

There has been no statement in support of Palestinian rights which, said the BDS Palestine National Committee “…further exacerbates US complicity  in funding, defending and enabling Israel’s decades-old regime of military occupation, settler colonialism and apartheid. (emphasis in original). Their full response can be read  here.

Indeed, when Biden met Abbas he said that while he endorsed a call for two states it would not happen any time soon and he failed to recognise East Jerusalem as capital of a Palestinian state. So he failed to put any pressure at all on the Israleis to moderate their positions.

There is now a majority if US States banning BDS and that is precisely what is being planned for the UK.

  • I had not expected much from Mr Biden. At times it appears that he does not quite know the time of day.
Israel is not a democratic state in my book, it is an apartheid state. By openly condoning the state’s actions which break international law, the US have become part of the problem rather than being part of the solution.

  • When will supporters of Israel learn that Israel is not, and never has been about Jews!! The support lavished upon Israel, financial and military, by the US has never been a token of US “compassion” for the persecution of Judaism but is almost entirely based upon US self interest.
Instigated in the 1940`s by the obedient UK assistant, Balfour, Israel was always intended as a “useful” power base in the Middle East for Western financial and military objectives. The cynicism of this project is staggering and many Jews would understandably be distressed at this concept but some hard thinking might reveal the logic behind this idea and it does help to explain much about Zionist attitudes in particular.
I am aware that my assessment of the status of Israel may not be welcomed. I am aware that this assessment presents both Israelis AND Palestinians as possible victims of manipulation by more powerful forces but again I appeal to logic. It might not be comfortable thinking, but it makes sense!!

    • Just a quick note that, of course, Balfour was much earlier than the 1940s, making the famous (or should that be infamous) Declaration in 1917.
