Peter Beinart lays out the US responsibility in the Israel-Palestine war. It is not to throw out peace plans for others to follow, it is to take responsibility for its own actions and to stop sending arms which allow Israel to pummel the far weaker Palestinians with impunity.

America’s primary responsibility is to figure out what it does with its money and its weapons. That’s what America has direct control over. America doesn’t have actual direct control over how this war in Gaza ends. From a moral perspective, its primary responsibility is its own role.”

The Strangeness of US Policy Toward Israel

Peter Beinart is at his best when he writes about Zionism: he helps others understand the cognitive dissonance and psychotic state of those trapped in the ethnonationalist cult which he himself has only relatively recently formally abandoned. But this moralistic piece is of a quite different nature. It is a longwinded and rambling disquisition which has little other than banal content and somehow manages to obscure the brutal reality of the US role.
The so-called war on Hamas is not a war but a genocide of Gaza’s people and the US is an active participant in that genocide. The US doesn’t just provide arms, but massive logistical, military, intelligence and diplomatic support without which the Israeli government simply could not continue its present course. All the rest is just window dressing.
Recently there’s a lot of whitewashing Israel by putting all the blame on Netanyahu. Let’s NOT forget EVERY Israeli leader has ALSO been a Genocidal Megalomaniac voted in by Israelis. Naftali Bennett for example Escalated the violence against Palestinians inc using white phosphorus gas on a school, until they RETALIATED and then Israel pounded Gaza and the World was critical of Israel so Bennett called a “ceasefire” a ceasefire where MSM ignored the fact that Israel continued to Escalate the violence.. apparently not enough for Israelis who voted Netanyahu back in to get on with the annihilation of Palestinians even harder. ISRAEL’s entire History has been the Agenda to Wipe Palestine off the Map. So Biden’s ingenuous call to replace Netanyahu is surely a Vote ” pleaser” intended to whitewash HIS complicity in the Palestine Holocaust and not anything to do with concern for Palestinians
Interesting but not fully accurate. George Bush described Israel as an ‘American air craft carrier’ in the Middle East. The USA, along with allies like Britain and France, bears responsibility for what is an colonial occupation. And Palestine is not unique: among others the USA continues to occupy illegally Diego Garcia: Britain continues its occupation in Ireland: and France continues to dispossess the indigenous people in what is called New Caledonia.
