Ahmed Abbes and Jonathan Rosenhead argue that 2021 will be remembered as the year when the dam broke: when the apartheid nature of the Israeli regime finally became accepted in mainstream discourse.
The implications of this are enormous.
For apartheid is a crime, internationally recognised as such by the United Nations since 30 November 1973.
The recognition of this reality in Israel and the occupied territories has been given a boost by the publication, with over a thousand prominent international signatories, of The Declaration on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid in Historic Palestine.

More than 1000 academics, artists and intellectuals have signed a “Declaration on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid in Historic Palestine,” in a sign of the growing acceptance of the term in the west.

I have thought for some time that a petition making these points should be available for anybody in the world to sign and be promoted at the highest possible level in every country by people such as the signatories of this new Declaration. It would have to be simple, e.g. “I agree with the conclusion reached by the Israeli human rights organisation B’tselem, Human Rights Watch and others that Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians amounts to the crime of Apartheid, and that as such the international community has the duty to bring this treatment to an end and ensure that both peoples presently inhabiting historic Palestine are given the right to self-determination.” I would do my bit to collect signatures for a petition like this, and would hope other supporters of JVL would do the same.
If I can add to my comment sent earlier to you, the petition should also request that the United Nations ask the International Commission of Jurists to rule on whether Israel’s actions amount to Apartheid. [I believe this was a demand of the ESCWA report].
