Building a Vision for Antizionist Judaism
JVL Introduction
More and more Jews are appalled at what Israel is doing in Gaza and in the West Bank. Some have learned more about the history of the State of Israel and early Zionist thinkers and rejected Zionism altogether. Many who are observant find themselves more and more isolated in their synagogues as they continue to identify with the State of Israel or report in detail of the individuals who were abducted by Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad on October 7th 2023 and say nothing at all about the tens of thousands of Palestinians killed by Israel, let alone of the thousands of Palestinians held hostage in Israeli prisons where their treatment has been appalling and for hundreds led to their deaths.
Here Marilyn Garson outlines some of what is happening, with Jews across continents rejecting the “being Jewish means supporting Israel” and the “antizionism equals antisemitism” rhetoric that we hear too often from our Establishment organisations – Jewish and not. There is a new Jewish community being created. GLOBAL JEWS FOR PALESTINE, which JVL belongs to, is part of that.

The whole Zionist Project was predicated upon a false prospectus, to wit, snake-oil salesman nonpareil Dr Chaim Weizmann held mutually exclusive opinions

Chaim Weizmann and how the Balfour Declaration was made in Manchester – The Jewish Chronicle – The Jewish Chronicle
In a letter written to the European Zionist leader Menachem Ussishkin shortly after his arrival, he described conditions in Manchester…
A. “You are dealing with the dregs of Russian Jewry, a dull ignorant crowd that knows nothing of issues such as Zionism.”
“You cannot imagine,” he continued, “what it means for an intellectual to live in the English provinces and work with the local Jews. It’s hellish torture!”

B.”I believe I speak the mind of millions of Jews,” Dr Weizmann spoke earnestly, “whom you will never see and who cannot speak for themselves.”
the pitch to Balfour was to imply that the millions in the shtetls were hanging on his every word – they were in fact Pinsker’s Misérables.
Weizmann despised the Ashkenazi sthetl-dwelling Jews from the Pale of Settlement, but weaponised them to elicit support for Zionism from the likes of Balfour.
A contemporaneous campaigner, E. D. Morel, had led a successful campaign to reveal the brutality of the Congo Free State, making speeches to huge crowds. He confided that, in terms, he got a real sugar rush out of holding crowds in the palm of his hand. He fell prey to his hubris and hit the public-speaking trail again but got his facts entirely wrong

This is a small point maybe but it has stuck with me. One of the participants at the Gaza Tribunal hosted by Jeremy Corbyn mentioned that images of watermelons are sometimes distressing to starving Palestinian children.
