The apparently disparate events in Jerusalem and the pogroms against Palestinians in greenline Israel are found to be intimately linked to the war on Gaza.
It stems from Netanyahu’s willingness to bring the whole edifice tumbling down if that was the price he had to pay to avoid criminal indictment.
This was a willed and cynical conflict for short-term ends.
But it has unexpectedly provided a political victory for the other side, uniting the Palestinian people as never before since 1948.
Mobilisation in their support is needed now as never before to force a change in Israel’s direction.
