Jail without trial – or even charge
By Leah Levane
The brutal reality of the innocuous sounding “administrative detention” is described here. An activitist had clearly been in the sights of the Israeli authorities for daring to film and make known the settler attacks and other hardships experienced by Palestinians living in the Jordan Valley. Ayman Ghrayaeb, 42 year old father of four set off expecting to be home in a few hours. Instead he was arrested, and six days later was “interrogated for the first time on non-specific suspicion of so-called “incitement”. His lawyer had already been told that he was to be placed under administrative detention so it was clear that this was a political move.
