Michael Rosen is bemused by former JC editor Stephen Pollard

By Richard Kuper

Richard Burgon MP has submitted an Early Day Motion on the creeping annexation of the West Bank which has attracted 60 supporters.

Former editor of the Jewish Chronicle, Stephen Pollard, in a one-line comment on it simply says: “Useful list of the leading Jew haters in the Commons.” …

The stranglehold of “the lobby” in the US

By Richard Kuper

As the claim that Israel dragged the US into war, supported enthusiastically by Aipac and the rest of the Israel lobby, MJ Rosenberg does well to point out that “American Jews remain, in broad outline, what they have long been: perhaps the most consistently progressive constituency in the United States.”

Quite simply, as he demonstrates convincingly, the lobby does not represent the Jews it purports to speak for.

The mismatch is now profound. Aipac, the leader of the pack, is in no way representative…

Jewish Terrorism in the West Bank

By Leah Levane

The use of the words “Jewish terrorism” in this Ha’aretz headline is significant and correct. What word other than terrorism is appropriate for what is being done to Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank?  Much of the harassment, pogroms and even murder is carried out by settlers who are so firmly embedded in the government that there are rarely any repercussions for the perpetrators.

1948 atrocities fuel ongoing wars on Palestine

By Leah Levane

Nakba 1947-9: “If an “outside Arab” was found in a village, according to Broshi’s directives, he was to be shot immediately. In general, the rule was to shoot “every 10th man” in a captured village where outsiders were found. In addition, all the men in any household in which property stolen from Jews was found were to be executed.”

Over 100 academics call for anti-SLAPP legislation

By Richard Kuper

More than a hundred academics calling on Keir Starmer to include anti-SLAPP provisions in the forthcoming King’s Speech.

Put simply a Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation (SLAPP) is “an abusive lawsuit filed by a private party with the purpose of silencing critical speech.”

The use of SLAPPs is widespread and is a serious threat to academic freedom and to the freedom of expression more generally.

Be very afraid: Jewish establishment groups in the US are fueling antisemitism

By Richard Kuper

Both articles reposted below, from the USA, make similar points: the war on Iran is fueling antisemitism.

It is a war the majority of Americans do not want.

For Peter Beinart it is crystal clear: antisemitism is rising because of the “specific claim that America has been pushed into wars by Israel with the support of large Jewish donors like Miriam Adelson and Jewish organizations like AIPAC.”

Josh Nathan-Kazis in Jewish Currents is equally clear: “Over the weekend, Jewish establishment groups rushed to yoke themselves to the unpopular war President Trump and the Israelis launched against Iran.

Judaising the (southern) West Bank

ethnic cleansing in Masafer Yatta. A short report from the Villages Group showing some of the tactics used to make life for Palestinians impossible; settler violence, pogroms, arrests, restriction on movement and more.

Judaising Jerusalem while we are looking elsewhere

By Leah Levane

“Under the cover of an existential war against the Palestinians, Israel is accelerating measures that alter Jerusalem’s demographic composition, religious character and legal status,” going on to warn that the actions are “destroying the remnants of the pluralistic fabric that Jerusalem has represented for centuries, for Muslims, Christians and Jews.”

Why Trump’s Iran war should terrify U.S. allies

By Richard Kuper

Tony Karon offers us seven thoughts about the new world order as it is emerging in the Middle East.

Here are  some extracts:

• The US is a dying empire raging violently against the dimming of its ability to impose its will on the world.
• Israel’s goal is to shatter and dismember the Iranian nation state, and if that is achieved at the expense of creating expanding circles of chaos radiating outward from Israel, all the better…
