Rebel Footprints – essential London walks and reading
JVL Introduction
The third edition of “Rebel Footprints” has been released. Written by Jewish Socialist Group leader, JVL member and antiracism activist David Rosenberg, it is recommended reading – recommended by no less than Michael Rosen who wrote this piece on Facebook as well as the foreword to the new edition.
Do these walks that we could call a fine example of public history, history from below as Michael Rosen refers to it, making history accessible and meaningful to people but also as a new way of viewing the city, away from the tourist landmarks, the history of the ruling class but rather the history and places of ordinary people, of those who struggled for their rights and for the rights of others.
David Rosenberg has a great deal of experience doing this and we welcome this new edition – as we also welcomed the first two and not only because it is written and endorsed by two Jews like us. The book makes a great Chanukah and Christmas present by the way and is a great read even if you cannot do the walks as the chapters have great maps and narratives as well as directions but if you are a Londoner or a visitor to the city, this book is an essential companion.
