Under international law, the crime of genocide is defined by “the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such”.
Sometimes this involves mass slaughter, sometimes drip-drip destruction of the ties that bind families, communities, societies together.
None is more corrosive than depriving people of food and water and slowly straining the social ties that bind.
Israel’s blockade is now having this effect. It is hard to see it as anything other than a willed, agonising genocide…
