Rashid Khalidi is Edward Said Professor of Arab Studies at Columbia University and author most recently of “The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine: A History of Settler Colonialism and Resistance, 1917-2017.”
Here he reflects on the current war which challenges many assumptions on which Israel’s colonial settler regime had relied and finds room for cautious optimism about the longer-term prospects.

the disgusting chair of Labour Friends of Israel, Stephen McCabe, appeared on TV today whingeing about protest outside constituency offices. His grandchildren have no been bombed nor his house bull -dozed but his sun-shine holiday funded by Israel next year may be threatened
This article is extremely helpful and informative. One lesser point though: the British state continues to occupy a part of Ireland despite the War of Independence. And in South Africa the dominance of foreign capital there means that the indigenous working class are still suppressed and oppressed. There are lessons here for the Palestinian Liberation Struggle.
