Palestinian Civil society call for action to stop the genocide

JVL Introduction

Palestinian civil society organisations have, once again written to UN Special Advisers noting that “Since your last public statement issued in the context of Israel’s unilateral breach of the ceasefire agreement, the situation for Palestinians in Gaza has only deteriorated.” They call on the advisers to publicly acknowledge the genocidal nature of Israel’s actions and to urge “all States Parties to the 1948 … Genocide Convention to fulfill their legal obligations, including to prevent genocide.”

Since this was sent on Saturday, Israel has supposedly begun to deliver aid but all NGOs and human rights organisations say not only is this too little but the control by Israel, the placing of the collection is adding to the desperation. Reports are coming in that several people were killed by Israeli gunfire trying to collect food yesterday and today, with many more injured.

Failure to meet obligations under the Genocide Convention could well show complicity.  It has to stop!

  • If this letter does not stir the international community to action, then there is truly no hope for the Palestinians. Nor indeed for humanity as we fail to act to save what remains of the Gazans and their homeland.
