Media myopia as we hurtle towards climate oblivion

JVL Introduction

“Any aliens who have been monitoring radio and television transmissions streaming outwards into space from Planet Earth over the past few decades will likely be intrigued, bemused or simply horrified at humanity’s headlong drive towards climate catastrophe.”

Thus begins this Media Lens report on the disjuncture between what we know about looming environmental catastrophe as a result of human activity and what governments and corporations are prepared to do about it.

Prof Bill McGuire, whose new book, ‘The Fate of the World: A History and Future of the Climate Crisis’, is among sources cited here.

He is one of those scientists warning us about how rampant capitalism is destroying the life-support systems that allowed our earth to become  an environment for life as we know it to evolve and flourish.

Is he even heard? Does our insane media system know or care?
